Our collaborative research with Prof. Kenji Matsuno and colleagues at The University of Osaka has been published in the Journal of Cell Biology.
This study showed that Myosin1D (Myo1D) and Myosin1C (Myo1C), in cooperation with Myosin2 (Myo2), direct clockwise and counterclockwise circumferential F-actin flows, respectively, in Drosophila macrophages. In vitro experiments further demonstrated that Myo1D spontaneously organizes F-actin into unidirectionally rotating ring structures. These findings provide a molecular basis for understanding how cell and organ chirality arises.
